Musician

I have been a musician all my life; I always enjoyed singing (though my stage fright as a child was terrible compared to now) and did choir throughout nearly all of my primary and secondary education. During high school, I participated in all three mixed choirs we had (along with Solo & Ensemble Festival) — under the direction of Mrs. Jan Knutson. I also took up learning guitar which I performed at many of our concerts. These experiences led me to pursue a degree in music with a choral emphasis at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater (UWW), where I completed my Bachelor of Music in Music Education along with general and choral music teaching licenses (alongside my second major in Computer Science which I added on licensure for).

Throughout my time at UWW, I took private lessons in voice (Prof. Brian Leeper, accompanied by Dr. Sarah Gehrenbeck), piano (Dr. Karen Boe), conducting (Drs. Robert Gehrenbeck [primary], Jon Arnold, and Chris Ramaekers [orchestral]), and cello (Dr. Benjamin Whitcomb), competed in the NATS voice competition, produced numerous research papers related to music education/computational musicology, performed for other research projects, and participated in the Chamber Singers choir — also directed by Dr. Robert Gehrenbeck. Our choir premiered numerous compositions, performed with singer/songwriter Judy Collins, and toured internationally in 2019 to Germany and Poland, where we performed in various cathedrals and concert halls around the countries. I also personally performed (for profit) with the First English Lutheran Church in Whitewater.

Since completing my degree, I worked as the intern choir director and private voice instructor at Parker High School in Janesville, WI (where I attended) for student teaching (in cooperation with Mr. Matthew Knutson, the youngest son of my high school choir director), and have since worked as the computer science teacher at Craig High School in Janesville where I also direct the Chamber Singers choir. I have also guest performed with and directed the First Congregational Church choirs in Janesville.

I also offer private lessons (conducting, voice, guitar, etc.), which you can contact me about on the home page or if you're looking for music theory tutoring, you can also contact me through Fiverr.

My vocal range is approximately E2-E5; I perform primarily Lyric Tenor repertoire for operatic works.
